Living in and loving the city can present a tremendous challenge. Here are some resources we’ve compiled to aid those thinking about moving to Chicago. Please don’t hesitate to send us anything you think we’d find useful!
basics
Some things you should be familiar with right from the beginning…
- Wikipedia has a great introduction to Chicago
- You will also want to familiarize yourself with Chicago’s community areas
- Chicago’s major newspapers are the Sun-Times and the Tribune, but you’ll likely also want to pay attention to the Reader
- The city’s website is helpful, particularly when exploring the planning section. The site also has a fairly comprehensive database of maps
- City-data.com also has plenty of helpful data concerning the city
- You can learn a lot from pictures — check out the Reader Flickr stream
- The public transportation system in Chicago provides fast, cheap travel through the grid-shaped city.
- It may go without saying, but we’ve found Google Reader and rss feeds to be a great help in wading through many different information and photo streams quickly

There are many benefits to living in a big city…
- Millennium Park is a beautiful outdoor venue in downtown Chicago. Be sure to check out the free concerts and events all year long
- Chicago’s many parks offset city life with natural wonder
- Free Zoos and Museums help enrich life and learning for kids
- Lake Michigan’s beautiful beaches provide great exercise and relaxation destinations (remember that great scene in this documentary?)

- Finding and possibly augmenting childhood education is a struggle for all who live in the city. We aim to love the city by being a part of education solutions. Find out more about Chicago public schools here, here, and here.
- Trader Joe’s has a number of stores in Chicago
- There’s free public wifi in certain zones of Chicago if you don’t want to spring for your own

What is up sucka! hahah I just watched a movie called eagle vs. shark it was awesome and the dude (Eagle Man) totally says “your a sucka, you sucka!” to his arch nemeses on the phone
I just found this Lakeview Citizens Council site. There are some newsletters archived that keep you in tune with some of the different things going on in the area.
