Here are some questions that we are asked often. Feel free to submit your own in the comments below or by emailing us.

How can I find out more about The Line?
The best way is to contact us personally. We are also available for more lengthy talks in homes, in home groups, in churches, etc. In addition, more information with regards to our background may be found at Harambee’s website (Harambee is our sending church), and the Acts 29 Network’s website.

Why do you call The Line “a movement”. Isn’t it really just a church plant?
The issue here is one of scope. While we are in one sense a church plant, we also wish to convey that in many ways the scope of our vision is broader than the scope of a single church plant. Whereas a typical church plant must focus on a single culture, people group, or tribe, and plant a church for it, we desire to seed churches in as many different cultures, people groups, and tribes as possible. By doing so, we believe that the witness of Christ to Chicago — a multi-racial, multi-cultural city — will be greatly strengthened. We envision a movement of Christian communities, each a distinct outworking of the gospel in a cultural context, working and collaborating together for the good of the city and the glory of God.

When will The Line launch?
As a movement, in one sense we will always be launching and seeding new communities and churches. We will be seeding our first community in the Lakeview area in January 2009.

What should I do in the meantime if I want to be involved?
There are several ways to be involved at this time. The first step is to simply let us know. From there, we can include you on any information updates, gatherings, or pre-plant opportunities that arise.

Why aren’t you in Chicago now?
As the lead planter, I, Aaron, have to wrap up my role as an elder at Harambee Church. I will split my time in 2008 between that role, my role at Amazon.com as a manager of an international team, and gathering the core group for the Line. We will be gathering a core community in many locations over the next year, with the goal of planting ourselves in the city in January 2009.

Who are you affiliated with?
We are mainly affiliated with the Acts 29 Network and our sending church, Harambee. That said, we also believe that nothing we propose could be more novel or exciting than orthodoxy, and consider ourselves affiliated with the long line of historical churches wherever they have sought to shine the light of Christ’s glory and truth into the darkness and oppression of evil.

  2. Good question Andrew.

We are absolutely a church. We are absolutely a movement. The core issue is how often we iteratively plant new communities and leaders. We are both the people of God and the forward momentum of the gospel on earth. We’ll keep working this out on the updates page (videos and articles) and as we meet together to discuss vision.

  3. “just a church” may imply that we believe the church to be lacking somehow. a “movement” however indicates motion and I look forward to feeling the motion. :)
